The state of Texas is now a “pink-colored capital of the state,” according to a report by theDallas Morning Newsmagazine on Tuesday.
The state’s Attorney General’s Office is seeking approval to begin marketing Viagra, a drug used to treat erectile dysfunction, on the black market in the state’s capital. It is part of a group of states that includes California, Colorado, Maryland, New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Texas and Virginia.
“This is a win for Texas,” said Mike Waggoner, a spokesman for the state’s Pharmaceutical Benefits Advisory Committee.
Viagra will be available on prescription at pharmacies throughout the state, Waggoner said. The medication is used to treat erectile dysfunction in men by increasing blood flow to the penis, but the drug is not approved for use in women.
The drug will be sold as a generic, Waggoner said. The company says that’s because of the potential for generic competition. It has not announced a price for the medication, and it has not revealed the price at all.
The state’s pharmacist, Dr. Joseph Zuckerman, told theTimesthat he’s not familiar with the company’s pricing. He said the drug will be sold in a variety of generic forms, including generics. He said the company has not decided if it is a good thing for the state or a bad thing for the company.
“They’re looking at it like they’re not really interested in selling it,” Waggoner said. “They’re going to have to find a way to get it out of their system.”
In the latest of a series of ads that appear on television, ads for Viagra appear as the state gets more and more erections. One ad features a state representative talking about his work with a patient in Kentucky, saying he’s seen the drug.
The ad says: “I’ve heard about Viagra. It’s the most effective drug for erectile dysfunction. I’ve heard about this medication. I’ve seen it in my office, and I’ve heard from people who have used it. But the one thing I haven’t heard, I haven’t seen it in my office, has not been verified.”
Zuckoner and others say they have not heard of the drug’s use.
“We don’t have any official reports,” Waggoner said. “There are no public reports of any drug in the U. S. We’ve never seen any of that. But we haven’t heard about it.”
“We’ve never seen a drug in the U. That’s what we’ve been seeing lately,” he added.
The state has a history of drug advertising, with many doctors prescribing Viagra for the first time to help with the treatment of erectile dysfunction. The ads promise to give patients the ability to obtain and maintain an erection even when they don’t have a partner.
